OUR BELIEFS
As an affiliate of the Presbyterian Church in America, Kainos is elder-led, theologically Reformed, and doctrinally aligned to the Westminster Standards.
CORE BELIEFS
At Kainos, we trust in a historic church as much as we believe alongside a global church. Historically, Jesus-loving, God-glorifying, Spirit-filled, and Biblically-rooted churches held to certain confessions, catechisms, and creeds to summarize their most essential and sacred beliefs.
For Kainos, we trust in the Apostles and Nicene Creed, complemented by the Westminster Standards (that is, the Westminster Confession of Faith, the Westminster Shorter Catechism, the Westminster Larger Catechism, and the Public Directory of Worship). As such, our core beliefs can be summarized by the following:
ON GOD
We believe there is one God who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
ON GOD’S WORD
(1) We believe the Bible is the written word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and is without error in the original manuscripts. (2) We believe the Bible is the revelation of God’s truth and is infallible and authoritative in every area of our lives.
ON GOD’S CREATION
(1) We believe God created the universe out of nothing. (2) We believe that man was created by God.
ON SIN AND SALVATION
(1) We believe in the sinfulness and responsibility of man. (2) We believe in God’s sovereignty and His gracious plan of salvation.
ON SACRAMENTS
(1) We believe in two sacraments: the Lord’s Supper and Baptism. (2) We believe in infant baptism as a sign of God’s covenant promise to His people.
ON JESUS
(1) We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who, through His perfect life and sacrificial death, atoned for the sins of all who will trust in Him alone for salvation. (2) We believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus and in His literal return.
ON LAST THINGS
We believe in a final judgment by God.
ON THE CHURCH
(1) We believe in the importance of the local church. (2) We believe in the Presbyterian form of church government.
CORE COMMITMENTS
As complements to our core beliefs are the following core commitments, carefully guided by our beliefs and purposefully pointed towards fulfilling our mission.
MISSIONAL WORSHIP
(1) We are committed to worshipping God, making disciples, and sending them out.
(2) We are committed to crossing cultures, caring for the poor, joyful worship and sound Bible teaching.
RECONCILIATION AND REPRESENTATION
(1) We are committed to be a church for all people, from all places (3M’s: multiethnic, multigenerational, multiclass).
(2) We are committed to maintaining unity in our church and to resolving conflict quickly and directly with the person(s) involved.
HOLISTIC HEALTH
(1) We are committed to be a people who strive to grow in grace with one another.
(2) We are committed to equipping people to be holistically healthy (spiritually, physically, emotionally, relationally, and vocationally).
DEPENDENT PRAYER
We are committed to being prayer dependent and Spirit-led.
RELATIONAL MULTIPLICATION
(1) We are committed to being in relationship with the unreached and the unchurched.
(2) We are committed to be a church that plants other churches in fulfillment of the Great Commission.
INTENTIONAL LEADERSHIP
We are committed to be a church that believes every member is a minister, and therefore sees every person as someone who has been uniquely created and gifted by God. As a result, we also see the Lead Pastor and other ministry leaders as those whose primary calling is to equip the saints for the work of ministry.
DEVOTIONAL PERSEVERANCE
We are committed to a long-term vision; we’re not looking for quick results, but long-term, sustainable growth.
