New – Kainos Church

Kainos is about one person: Jesus. All else is second.

Radically New

“Kainos” is the Greek term used in the Bible to describe the new life that comes from knowing Jesus. While the word is often translated as “new” in English translations of the Bible, the Greek use of the word held a much deeper meaning, pointing to three life-changing and world-shaping realities:

New Calling

A church for all people, from all places, for one purpose.

New Creation

First, the word kainos means “new creation.” It doesn’t take long for human beings to experience emotions like regret, sorrow and hurt. As we get older, we each develop ways to cope, survive, or even escape the hardships of life. Often, it can feel like we’re scraping by under the weight of expectations, responsibilities, and even our own mistakes. Ultimately, we find that that the brokenness in our world and even in our own lives is unavoidable. For this reason, Jesus Christ came to make a way for each of us to do more than survive the trials of life—Jesus came to give us a new, abundant life where we are made into a new creation.

New Community

Second, the word kainos means “new community.” When we consider the condition of our earthly communities, it’s not hard to see the paradox of beauty, development and progress, often coupled with tension, division, and strife. In a postmodern world, we have become virtually accustomed to this reality. The result of living in such an inconsistent world is an era riddled with fear and angst. But, there is hope. Through Jesus, we not only experience life as a new creation but we can begin to experience the world as part of a new community; one that is increasingly being freed from division, racism, and classism; one that is empowered by His love, and changed into His image.

New Calling

Third, the word kainos means “new calling.” The Bible teaches us that people made into a new creation are also made into a new community. We believe that with this new community comes a new calling. In the Scriptures Jesus teaches that He is making all things new. So, while our lives on earth are surely being changed now, there is an even greater “new” to come. Eternity then, begins to shape the present. It allows us to be sacrificial in serving others now, in pouring into communities today, and in living faithfully here. With Heaven as our home, life on earth becomes an opportunity to reflect the ultimate newness to come through what we say and what we do, not just as a good endeavor, but as our ultimate calling.

Gospel Clarity

The Gospel is Good News for all. It’s where everything starts. It’s powerful, it’s convicting and it’s compelling… all by itself. The Gospel is the life-changing News that tells of what God has accomplished through the life and death of Jesus Christ. Through faith in Him, God gives us a new heart, a new life, and a new identity, enabling us to live with a new love. We believe this message is the only true hope for the world. Our longing is to see the world changed by the transforming power of this News.

Authentic Community

The Gospel is the life-changing News that creates a new community, which is God’s family. In this family and by the power of His Spirit, we are striving to love God completely, ourselves correctly, and others compassionately. This new community is God’s design for reflecting and building His Kingdom, giving us a new hope in this life and in the one to come.

Biblical Diversity

The Gospel is the life-changing News that reconciles all people. We believe that all of humanity is created in God’s image, to bear His image, and to reflect His glory. Therefore, diversity is not a human construct but rather a Kingdom reality. We want to intentionally pursue the diversity of our community and champion the diversity of God’s global Kingdom.

Cultural Renewal

The Gospel is the life-changing News that restores what is broken. Through the Gospel, God is making all things new, both in our individual lives and in the social and cultural fabric of all of creation. Because of God’s work and His promises, we have hope in a new world. As believers we want to join God in His mission to bring renewal to every sphere of life.

Prayer Family Generosity Mulitiplication

Prayer

It’s who we are, not just what we do. It’s not a ministry, but the ministry. It’s our lifeline, not our safety net. We want to seek God for who He is, not just what He can give. We want to seek God because we love Him, and we want to seek Him to do what only He can do. We desire to be known as a house of prayer.

Family

It’s who we are, not just what we do. We are God’s household, not a social club. To be in His family means to be in close relationship with others. A key to our family culture involves feasting together and seeing our dinner tables as a place of welcome and radical hospitality. We believe the table creates a sense of home, ushers us to listen to the stories of our neighbors and invites us to remember that a greater meal is coming. As a family, we want to join God in building up families and helping them thrive. We desire to be a family of grace where all people are known and accepted.

Generosity

It’s who we are, not just what we do. It’s financial and relational. It’s a “both/and,” not an “either/or.” We give because of God’s grace, not because of our guilt. We give cheerfully, generously and sacrificially to see the Kingdom advance and others prosper. Generosity is about much more than money. It means thinking critically about how we can leverage our talents, resources and relationships to help other people grow and live out their God-given potential. We desire to give much, simply because we’ve been given much.

Multiplication

It’s who we are, not just what we do. It’s a way of life. It’s intentional and relational, not automatic or programmatic. We believe multiplication happens when leaders pour themselves into the lives of a few. We are convinced multiplication is not just individual, but it is also corporate, and therefore, believe in the sacrificial pursuit of sending long-term missionaries and planting new churches. Our desire is to intentionally train and multiply cross-cultural leaders. Our dream is plant 5 new churches in our first 10 years of life.
